May 13th 2016. “Can't Nobody Get Down”, out 27th May, is the new EP from New Orleans’ Hot 8 Brass Band, coincidingwith an extensive and largely sold-out UK and Ireland tour (their second visit in six months, in celebration of their recent 20th Anniversary). This EP sees the Grammy-nominated band unleashing two brand new tunes alongside a live favourite and two new remixes of their iconic Sexual Healing cover, including one by popular reggae/dub producer Wrongtom. A new cover of Stevie Wonder's “That Girl” continues their grand tradition of electrifying brass versions, Stevie Wonder being an idol for band leader Bennie Pete and many other Hot 8 players. Injecting proceedings with a soulful and jazzy demeanour, the band's elegance and technical chops shimmer through their famous boisterousness on this winding homage to the great Wonder. The final cut on this digital EP is a remix from Roy Cooper featuring Israeli singer Smadar Akray, putting aslow-burning and sultry progressive house spin on the classic to take Hot 8’s sound into new terrain. Another cut on this digital EP is a remix from Roy Cooper featuring Israeli singer Smadar Akray, putting a slow-burning and sultry progressive house spin on the classic to take Hot 8’s sound into new terrain.

October 16, TRU THOUGHTS, UK

New Record Out! This Vinyl / CD  album is available on our Label Tru Thoughts
Digital downloads
on iTunes, Bandcamp, Spotify and Amazon

This album exemplifies Hot 8’s ability to honour and promote their city’s (and their own) legacy while pushing on to create a new tradition. Nowhere is this more evident that in the transition from the raucous, crowd-pleasing hip hop cut “Get Up” – one of their originals, written by Shavers, on which Big Al busts a whole new rap for this occasion – into the Big Easy standard “Royal Garden Blues”, a traditional instrumental that rolls and bubbles with vintage, Technicolor charm. “Rasta Funk” brings reggae to the streets of New Orleans; while “Take It To The House” is an impassioned rallying cry developed during the Second Line parades that followed the death of Johnson, as raw and affecting now as when it was first played almost 20 years ago; and “New Orleans (After The City)” is an ode and a commitment to their beloved hometown.

AUGUST 14, TRU THOUGHTS, UK

New Orleans’ Hot 8 Brass Band toast their 20th Anniversary in typical roof-raising style, announcing a series of releases and live dates to celebrate this significant and incredibly hard-won milestone. Kicking off proceedings on 9th October, with the first new recorded music from the band since 2013, is the “Papa Was A Rolling Stone”/“We Shall Walk Through The Streets Of The City” single, two weeks ahead of the ‘Vicennial – 20 Years Of The Hot 8 Brass Band’ album. The essential LP is packed with newly re-recorded versions of classic Hot 8 material, as well as brand new tunes, and sees Hot 8 on the form of their lives.

Enjoy this super-upfront stream of the lead track!
